Zeta Has Shut Down

Zeta shut down in May 2025. Users were required to close their accounts by May 9, 2025. In June 2025, Acorns announced it had acquired Zeta’s assets. Cofounders Kevin Hopkins and Aditi Shekar joined the Acorns team.

The standalone Zeta app no longer exists on the App Store or Google Play.

What Was Zeta?

Zeta was a banking and budgeting app built specifically for couples. Unlike most couples finance apps that just showed you each other’s existing accounts, Zeta provided a joint bank account — an FDIC-insured checking account through their banking partner, Piermont Bank. Both partners could deposit, spend, and view the shared account while keeping individual accounts connected.

The app was free with no monthly fees. Zeta generated revenue through banking interchange fees rather than subscriptions, which made it an attractive option for couples looking to share finances without added costs.

What Happened?

Zeta ceased operations in May 2025, requiring users to close their accounts and transfer funds out before the May 9 deadline. The company did not publicly detail the reasons for shutting down.

In June 2025, Acorns — the micro-investing app — announced it had acquired Zeta’s technology and team. The acquisition signals that some of Zeta’s couples finance features may eventually appear within the Acorns platform, but no specific timeline or product plans have been announced.

What to Use Instead

For couples managing finances together:

  • Honeydue — Free couples finance app with shared account views and in-app chat. Still active, though support responsiveness has been a concern.
  • Splitwise — Best for tracking who owes what on shared expenses and debt payments. Not a banking app, but excellent for keeping score.
  • Monarch Money — Premium finance dashboard with multi-user sharing. Subscription-based but feature-rich.

For couples tackling debt together, pair one of the above with a dedicated debt tracker like Ascent or use our free Couples Debt Split Calculator to figure out a fair division of debt responsibilities.
