Honeydue
Free couples finance app that may leave you on read
What Is Honeydue?
Honeydue is a finance app built specifically for couples. You and your partner each download the app, connect your accounts, and get a shared view of your combined finances. The twist: you control what your partner can see. You can share everything, share some accounts, or keep certain accounts private.
The app includes bank syncing, bill reminders, spending tracking, and an in-app chat feature so you can have money conversations without switching to a text thread. It’s designed to make talking about money with your partner less awkward and more practical.
And here’s the part that sounds too good to be true: it’s completely free. No premium tier, no subscription, no ads that we’ve seen. Which raises a question we’ll address in our take below.
Who Is Honeydue Best For?
Couples starting to combine finances. If you and your partner are at the stage where you want visibility into each other’s spending without fully merging accounts, Honeydue’s per-account sharing controls are thoughtful. You can start with partial transparency and increase it over time as you get comfortable.
People who avoid money conversations. The in-app chat feature is a small thing that makes a real difference. Sending your partner a message like “Hey, we’re close to our dining out budget” feels less confrontational when it happens inside a dedicated finance app rather than a random text message.
Budget-constrained couples. If you’re working on debt together and can’t justify paying for another subscription, Honeydue’s zero-cost model is appealing. You get bank syncing, shared budgets, and bill tracking without adding to your monthly expenses.
Pricing
Honeydue is free. There’s no premium version, no subscription tiers, and no ads that are currently visible. The company appears to have explored partnerships with financial institutions as a revenue model.
While free is great, the lack of a clear business model raises sustainability questions — which brings us to the concerns we need to be honest about.
Our Take
We want to be upfront with you: Honeydue has some red flags that you should know about before committing your financial data to the app.
The app’s customer support has become increasingly difficult to reach. User reports across app stores and forums describe emails going unanswered, broken bank connections that never get fixed, and an overall sense that the development team has gone quiet. The app’s social media accounts and blog have shown reduced activity.
None of this means Honeydue is going to disappear tomorrow. But in the world of finance apps — where you’re trusting a company with your bank credentials and financial data — silence from the team behind the app is concerning.
The app itself, when everything is working, is genuinely well-designed for its purpose. The per-account sharing controls are better than what most couples apps offer. The in-app chat is a nice touch. And the price (free) is unbeatable.
But bank syncing connections break over time as financial institutions update their systems, and if there’s no active development team fixing those connections, you’ll eventually lose the automatic tracking that makes the app useful. Several users have reported exactly this scenario.
Our suggestion: if you try Honeydue, don’t rely on it as your sole financial tool. Have a backup plan. And if you’re managing debt as a couple, consider pairing it with (or replacing it with) an app that has active development and responsive support — even if that means paying for a subscription.
Your financial data deserves an app with someone actively keeping the lights on.
